Down the Shore

We spent this past weekend at my parent's place near Bethany and Rehoboth Beach DE.  My Mom spends most of her time down there during the Summer relaxing from her grueling schedule as a Housewife with no children at home.  She's amazing.  I don't know how she does it.  Anyway, that's why she barely comments anymore on this site, she's never home.  Don't worry though, we're not fighting.  Actually, that's not true, we fight and make up daily.  We've been doing it now for 42 years now so we're quite good at it.  My Dad is wise enough to stay out of it.
As you may have read, the kids also spend a lot of time at the beach.  They all went down together at the beginning of the Season and that proved too much for my Mom and for me.  I was lost without them.  So now they go down in pairs.  We are trying to figure out the right combination and may come up with one by Fall if all goes well.  We left Claire and Jacob behind this time.
We arrived late on Friday.  I don't mind arriving late because it's not like we are booking an hotel.  It's free.  We can come and go as we please so spending 1 or 2 days down there is just right.
Saturday morning, we headed for the beach.  Obviously the kids had a great time.  They are not just posing for me.  With them getting older, I can enjoy just sitting and getting as black as possible.  We come early to get a spot right in front and can keep an eye on them but don't have to sit on the water's edge anymore so they don't drown.  I'm not quite to the point where I can read a book or even close my eyes.  I don't know when that day will come.  But we also try to park ourselves right beside a lifeguard.  It's not what you think.  We do it so if the kids look up, they know exactly where we are.
But Kyle did have nice legs.
After the beach, Johnny wanted to go fishing and crabbing at the bay near my parent's place.  So of course I took him.  I really hate fishing and crabbing but he is old enough that I don't have to do a thing.  I don't mind just sitting there watching him.  Every once in awhile, I try to give him so constructive advice and he'll say, "do you fish?".  Then I shut-up.
So all of these pictures that you are seeing right now are from Saturday.  That evening, we went to the Boardwalk for dinner, shopping(ugh) and rides.  I have no pictures from Sunday because...
At 2a.m., I woke up with a Migraine.  It was minor but I knew it was one of my "sick headaches" that I get often.  By 5a.m., I considered taking a bullet to the brain.  But then my Mom would get mad because, along with sand that the kids dragged in, she would have to clean up blood and gore.
I searched the bags for one of my magic little pills but came up with nothing.  At 6a.m., I had some coffee hoping that the caffeine would help.  It didn't.  I told my Mom(everyone else was sleeping) that I needed to run to the Rite-Aide to see if they could fill my prescription.  So off I went.
I got about 5 miles when I totally lost it.  My guts that is.  So there I was on the side of the road "enjoying" once again, my dinner from the previous evening.  Obviously the texture had changed but I could still recognize it as chicken, sadly.
I then cleaned-ish myself off and continued my journey to Rite Aide hoping that the folks there wouldn't pick up on my lovely new scent.  I sure didn't smell like Old Spice.  Pulled into the parking lot and of course, they were not a 24 hour store.  They opened at 10a.m. on Sundays.
I drove back smelling and feeling like hell.  Back at my parent's, I decided that I needed to go back to sleep.  I slept horribly until 9a.m.  At 9:45a.m. Fred drove me back to the store.  The pharmacist, age around 60 and grey(just so you could picture her a bit) came up to me and said "Drop Off?".  I told her no and that I needed the pills right away.  She said "Wait".  She then went off to count her register.  Finally she came back and took my info.  She came back 10 minutes later and tossed the refill card on the counter and said, "we don't have it".

Let me tell you something people, I am not accustom to such bad customer service and manners.  I usually walk into a place, give them a big smile and I'm set.  But this Bitch pissed me off.  And I could have gone all Trailer Court on her ass but I decided to take the high road.  I said, "Look, I'm in serious pain and I need your help.  Please look into your System and locate another Rite Aide who does have the drug".  She handed the info to her assistant(skinny man who looked to be about her age) and he found a store for me, 25 miles away.  I thanked him immensely.  He seemed bothered too but at least he was helpful.
So Fred plugged in the new address into the GPS, I  laid back and off we went.  The pharmacist(30ish and of Indian descent) was lovely.  I could have married her, if I was into women that is.  But anyway, I'll call this week and give her a good review.  Plus, she didn't even mind how badly I stank.  Or at least didn't show it. Pure Class.
Within two hours, I felt 75% better and was able to pack up our bags to head back home.  Halfway through the trip, I told Fred that I could take over driving.  He sat in the back and watched Percy Jackson and the Olympians with John and Joshua.  I was just happy not to be in pain any longer.  And I thanked God for that.  Oh yeah, I just don't reach out to Him while I'm in pain.  That would be rude.  And He would know it.  He's sensitive like that.
So we made it back, picked up the dogs from my Aunt Pam B(Thanks Pam) and came home.  Showered the boys, put them to bed and then showered myself again.  I did mention that I showered earlier right?  Anyway, I had changed the linens right before we left so everything was nice and clean.  Turned on  the T.V. and started watching Whale Wars.  For Pete Bethune of course.
Whales are okay too.

Your now healthy Friend, m.
p.s.  I think I'll shave Fred's head tonight while he sleeps.

When my kids were small and we went to the beach, I listened to books on tape on my Walkman (which gives you an idea of how long ago THAT was!)Looks like every one enjoyed the beach!
Sorry to hear about the migraine...bad enough you feel that bad, but you have to deal with people who COULD help, but won't. Glad you were able to find someone who would!

This did not go the direction I thought it would! Man, I am so thankful I don't get migraines. I'm glad you finally got your medicine.

This made me laugh:

"My Mom spends most of her time down there during the Summer relaxing from her grueling schedule as a Housewife with no children at home. She's amazing. I don't know how she does it."

And of course, I loved the photo of the lifeguard's legs. But it seemed so pervy of you to take a photo without him knowing it. (In a good kind of pervy way, that is.)

Looks like lots of fun! Thanks for sharing the pics.

I too suffer from the nausea and blurred vision... it's never pleasant. Hope your 100% today!!

I got your comment about our adoption day. Just for the record, "our eggs" have all dried up. We have decided one little boy is enough! Brase will be happy as an only child. If he gets lonely I will contact you and arrange a long weekend. I do not know how you manage with 4 kids and a husband under foot. You are a better man than me!!! What a wonderful BIG family you have.

Best regards,
Brandon

Loved the post. I used to get migraines and, like you, thought of a bullet to the brain too many times.
Say, you were in my neck of the woods. Next time you and the family are visiting, let me know and come in to the restaurant for lunch. Dos Locos in RB. It would be nice to meet you and the kids.

You take great pics of those kids, btw.

Enjoy what's left of the summer. Thanks for dropping by my place, stop again anytime.
