One hour in Starbucks

And that's enough for 2012

As you well know, in life's game, I'm considered, what they call, a Winner(wink!).  It's something I don't bring up often because bragging is such bad manners.  But there are times when you just have step out of the closet and scream "I am what I am"!

A couple of weeks ago, Blogger Friend, Diane, The Blue Ridge Gal was having a Starbuck's Giftcard contest giveaway.  I'm mostly done entering contests but I'm never done with leaving, what I find, funny comments on one's blog.  It's pretty sad.  You could have the most beautifully written post that the world has even seen and I'll find a way of cheapening it for you.  Most people think "oh, that's just m. being m."  But sometimes, people erase my comments.  Can you believe that!  It's true.  Maybe I'll talk about that later.  But right now I need to get back to bragging.  I mean, talking about my blessings and good fortune!

Like I need another damn cookie in my life.

Anyway, I think I left a comment saying something like, "If I don't win, I'll probably have to sell one of my kids to feed my coffee addiction.  And I'll bet and I can get a lot for that little blue eyed one"!  Well, Diane didn't delete my comment.  And about a week later, she wrote to me letting me know that I could keep Joshua for a little while longer because, well, I'm a Winner!

A week later, I got the gift card in the mail.  But with all my Girl Scout cookie nonsense, I wasn't able to hit Starbucks for about another week or so.  Finally, I called my Friend Melissa up to see if she wanted to have coffee with me.

I love Melissa's face but she will absolutely hate this photo.

So we made plans to meet the next day, Sunday.  Because I was leaving the house, once again and without Fred or the kids with me, I had to do that rushing thing again where I make sure everything is in place before I leave.  I'm sure I shared with you before that we have "downtime" in the house.  It's a time where we close up the house and the kids need to calm it down for about two hours.  And if John wants to go out running, we always let him know not to bring Friends back during that time.  So everything was in place and I headed over to pick up Melissa.

If you've seen one, you've seen them all!  Starbucks, not the guy.  Although...

But here's the deal, I only had until 1:30 to hang out.  Claire's G.S. troop was having World Thinking Day at 2PM.  The photo of me and some of the girls, in the last photo of my previous post, was taken there.  So Melissa and I arrived around 12:30 and  started bitching, I mean, chatting about our spouses.  That's always great fun!  She got a tea and a biscotti and I got a regular coffee and a cookie.  I wanted to pour some French Vanilla creamer in there but they only had milk and Half and Half at their stand.  Apparently, I have to order my coffee with that in it and that costs another $50.00.

I like my creamers like I like my men, French and Vanilla!

I hardly ever go to Starbucks.  I have no time in my day to make such a visit.  If I'm not working, I'm with the kids and that's the last place that they would want to be dragged into.  For whatever it's worth, I drink coffee only for the caffeine.  Not so much for the taste.  And if I get coffee on the run, it's usually at McDonald's which gives you the biggest cup for one buck.  "I'm lovin it"!  (This is not a sponsored ad for McDonald's) ha!  But still, I had the gift card and I was going to make good use of it.

And it was an odd feeling going in there.  I always imagine people sitting in there drinking their Lattes, while working on laptops trying to look like they're somebody.  And I wasn't disappointed.

I'm sure they are all just emailing and texting each one another.

Is it me or do you also find it sad that no one is talking to each other?  Seriously, this wouldn't happen in a diner.  Is this our world now?  Can't they do this at home?  I felt as if they were all just there to be seen.  So obviously, you can tell that it rubbed me the wrong way.  Believe me, you get from me if you rub me the right way!

But, when in Rome!  I decided that I needed to look like I belonged there.  So I pulled out my latest novel and began ignoring Melissa.

Or maybe it's more of an Anatomy text book?

But I'm sure I impressed everyone there.  They probably thought I was a Med student or something.  I mean, you would assume that right?

So although I find everyone in Starbucks boring and pompous, I was most thrilled to have an hour to spend with one of my great Friends.

And Melissa was too!

Diane, your gift was way more than a gift card for coffee.  It helped me keep a connection to a wonderful Friend that I don't see that often anymore.  And for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Five minutes after I took this photo of Melissa, above, a Starbuck's employee asked me to stop taking photos.  I did.  We were leaving anyway.

Diane and Melissa's Friend, m.(Winner)!
