Pillow Talk

As if you don't have enough reasons to be jealous of me.

Besides being totally awesome and, at the same time, quite humble..., I'm a big time winner!  Sorry, I meant, WINNER!!!!  It's true, I lucked out with cool parents, a great childhood and even scored a Frenchman without hardly even trying.  And then throw in four great(most of the time) kids and, basically, I got it all!  Alright, I might have a few flaws but I'm certainly not going to point them out to you here.

Anyway, a million years ago, fellow blogger Brandi, of Don't Disturb This Groove, held a contest in which she would design/make a pillow and present it to the lucky person who commented.  Well, being a Winner, I  thought, "hell, I could use another pillow"!  So I commented and you'll never guess what happen next.

Oh my God, you're right!  I did win!  How did you do that?  Well since you figured that out, I'll just continue.  So Brandi wrote back congratulating me and I was all like "What, you mean me?  Oh my, I can't believe it"! So I was happy and I thanked her very much.  Then I waited.  And waited, and waited and waited...  Actually, I did wait a little bit but I wasn't overly concerned.  But Brandi was!  Honest to Pete, she was a total nut about it.  I would get daily emails asking me about fabric choices and color choices and design choices.  It totally turned into a lot of work on my end and if I wasn't so greedy about getting something for nothing, I would have surely blocked her email address.

The funny thing is, she was really like that!  But here's the deal.  Although Brandi will never say it, she's a perfectionist.  She just wanted it to be perfect for me.  And so every time that she would shoot me an email about making another decision, I would first call her some kind of Crazy and then I would answer her question.  And then finally, I said, "Geez, I'm so tired.  Just send me the damn pillow already!".  Thankfully, she was able to laugh at her old crazy self.

So then that was all decided and as far as I can remember, she went on vacation.  Then while on vacation, I would receive emails from her apologizing that she was on vacation and would work on the pillow as soon as she got home.  I told her to relax and that I had bigger things, in life, to worry about.  Which is, um, true.

So finally, we got to the mailing stage.  Once again, I would get emails indicating that the package was mailed, what tracking number to use to trace it and when I could expect it.  She just wanted to make sure that I actually got it.

So then one day, upon coming back from work, I spied, with my little eye, a package outside my door.  I was so excited to receive it.  So much so that I forgot to email Brandi to let her know that it had arrived.  I don't know for sure but she probably had 10 different kinds of heart attacks that day when she didn't get an email from me.

But the next day, I did email her back letting her know that, Yes, I did receive it and, Yes, I was totally in love with my custom made, just for me, Pillow and all the other things that came along with it.  She included wash clothes, hand towels, a piece of art for Claire and whole bunch of ice-cream fixins' for the boys.  But really, all I cared about was the one item made especially for me.

It's all mine.  Now stop trying to look up my shorts!

My first secret, that most of you don't know is, we are buying a new house.  I'll blog about it later.  But in that new living room, the major color will be blue.  And since you're so smart, guess what item I'll be decorating it around?

Seriously, I can't get nothin' by you!

Brandi, thank you so much!  And even though you exhaust me and I can't even imagine what you must put your husband through, I am totally gaga about this beautiful pillow.  The kids love it too.  Jacob even tried to touch it last night and, p.s. long story short, he won't be trying that move again!

Brandi's Friend, m.
p.s. Hopefully, by the end of this week, I'll talk about something else that I won.

Lucky bastard! I'm commenting. Feel free to email ME if I've won anything. Unfortunately, shipping to India is pretty damn expensive, so don't commit hastily. (The pillow is beautiful!)

You're AWESOME!!!!! Do you know how much I love you?!  First of all you described me to a "T"! Secondly, I can't get over how much you wrote about your gifts! I'm so glad you loved everything! So happy to see Miss Claire loved her gift as well! I can't wait til my husband gets home so he can read this and laugh.

PS. I totally looked up your shorts
PPS. Did you notice I picked up the calcium fortified chocolate syrup?! So yeah, it's good for your kids! LOL!

I was trying to figure out where the other random photos fit in...then I got to the end and it (FINALLY) all made sense.  Lovely pillow!  (I see London, I see France....)

Laxsupermom said...

Congrats on the win!  Love the new pillow!  All those perfect, tiny fingertuck folds have me feeling a little bad about my sewing table covered in a layer of dust that you could draw pictures in.  Love the butterfly art, too!  How thoughtful of Brandi to include your kids in the win, too!  What a sweetheart!  Looking forward to seeing you decorate the new house.

Rebecca Jo Vincent said...

Man -that's a lot of work ... but the pillow is mighty handsome! Worth all the work she put in it! :) ... Good luck on the house hunt or move, if you already found the house! ... I spy a juicer in the background!!! :)

Tara said...

I'm jealous; I love that pillow and I want to one win too. Obviously I need to study your every move, so I can figure out how to be a winner too. Oh, and I didn't look up your shorts until you said not to, so thanks for using that reverse psychology on us to to get us to look up your shorts, you exhibitionist, you!

Deedah said...

I have x-ray vision and can see up your shorts anytime I feel like it.  LOL  Oh, and it really makes me mad that you won that pillow and I didn't and I want to move to a different house too and have a framed thingie with my name in the middle hanging on the walls of said house.  HERSHEYS!!  Did someone say Hershey's??

the444 said...

Why would I look up shorts when I was distracted by the hairy arms?  Oh, and the pillow looks awesome, but be careful with your wino treat - it doesn't look like something you should toss in the washing machine.

Linda @ A La Carte said...

Mark you crack me up!  I must say that is one GORGEOUS pillow!  Crazy Brandi did a great job!  How sweet to send so many goodies along with it.  Can't wait to hear more about the new house.  Big Hugs, Linda

Wow, exquisite piece of needlework. You are such a lucky guy!!! Moreover, the colour pattern matches your eyes. No, not really, but I just couldn't resist writing that :)) And I notice that you've taken your revenge after the Bertie-Jaguar 'incident' on Walt's blog ... Why? Because you used one of my recent blog titles; copycat!!! (lol) Martine

Madgew said...

It was worth waiting for. I am a winner as well and have won lots of wonderful things. Just not the big lottery which I play only when it is over $675 million which is the magic number when the odds are the best. :)

Joy at Joyfulthings said...

I was staring at the beautiful pillow and I didn't try to look up your shorts until you mentioned it - so then I did. :>)

Mark,
Nice legs.  And I too put my night vision goggles on but couldn't see anything in those crevices.  C'est dommage.  Well, perhaps now that Psycho-zy is finnissez you and his premiere muffin Carla could team up for an act at the Moulin Rouge.  Word has it she is looking for some employment.
Your Jersey fan club,
>wink<

Brandon said...

Cool pillow!  My question is... are the gifts really free?  I see you put a lot of work into all your comments.
Keeping up with your fans is a full time endeavor.  In my opinion, these packages are earned.
On a side note, Best of luck with the new house.  And... NICE LEGS!!!  Your more daring the me... I have not worn short, above my knee, in more than 10 years.  No one wants to see my old legs.

Take care,
Brandon

becca said...

nice pillow and yum when can i come over for ice cream chocolate right. congrats on winning by the way that's awesome work. give the kids hugs and kisses for me. oh and i was to distracted by the beautiful needlework to take the time to look up your shorts besides I don't want Fred coming after me after all I'm to old to run fast enough to get away. XOXO

DazeeDreamer said...

How did you know I was sneaking a peek up your shorts?

Miss A said...

Totally jealous. First of all, the pillow is HOT. How can a pillow be hot? Well I was more into checking it out than checking out if you're wearing underwear. That pillow upstaged you!
Second, you and Fred, yup, you guys are fine. Fine and cool in a good wine type of way. Then those kids... So yeah, I'm jealous, but unlike Glenn Close I'll never boil your rabbit (or other animals).
I'll just sit behind this computer being jealous and insecure and wishing I were a gay man. Ha wouldn't life be easier... (no, I know it would probably not though maybe).

Kelly said...

Geeze, what an overachieving blogger. Pillows, ice cream AND follow-up emails. Brandi raises the bar. And I was just trying to think of something funny to say about a toad for tomorrow.  House buying... fun. Newhouse decorating - giddy with anticipation. The pillow totally rocks!

Joyce said...

I was TOTALLY trying to look up your shorts.....how did you catch me?

Heidi Miller said...

I am excited to hear about the new house!!  The pillow is really a work of art and worth the wait.

Mark, the pillow is gorgeous! I would totally deal with a million e-mails in order to get one of those.
Good luck buying a new house, hope it's pretty much hassle free for you all.

SO now you know to be careful with those freebee contest thingys...hey...you scored though...a free pillow for your new home...excellent.

Jim Cuvelier said...

Now THAT is a talented person! Not you, Mark, Brandi! It was Christmas all over again in the Himes' household!
So a new house is coming AND something else?! M_M_M_M, that's me wondering.....this will be 'fun' to observe, from here!

Gotta love a gal like that!  How nice that she sent things for the kids, too.  She has a good heart...and you have a good....hmmmm...brain?  xo Diana   ps...WHY would I (capital I) try to look up YOUR shorts?  Seriously....

Kimberly said...

Wow!  That was exhausting.  I think it's gorgeous though.  What a beautiful job she did.  Be careful though.  Don't get tipsy and spill that big glass of wine on it.

Stasha said...

Yeay for the pillow and the new house. And you looking rather handsome if I may say so...

You and your pillow make a stunning couple(I won't tell Fred). Brandi sounds like my kind of woman - I wonder if she's available...

bywordofmouth said...

You are such a girl!
And Brandi sounds like a crazy stalker fan with a heart of gold and you should keep her forever, seriously, have you seen what she does over there?  She rescues puppies, and strips spindles and grows jungles - the girl is a saint! ;)

You won the "privilege" pf being the first to comment on this post. Lucky you!
I hope your babies are doing well and I hear that you are the official Nanny of some other special babies there.
Thinking of you.
m.

mhimes said...

Of course you looked up my shorts. I would too if I wasn't me!
Yes, I love the pillow and it will be proudly displayed in my new living room. Now, if you could whip me up a mid-modern century sofa to go with that, I'd love you forever! You crazy nutball!
m.
And yes, I certainly saw the Calcium label. Thank you!

mhimes said...

I know, I just post photos and hope that everyone can follow.
And now, you don't see my underpants! Because there weren't any!
m.

Comeca said...

You are just too cute!!! And was Claire not just UBER happy !I think Brandi brought a lil sunshine to you guys!

mhimes said...

I truly only expected the pillow and when I started seeing all that stuff, I was floored.
And yes, it will be displayed in my new living room.
The new house was built in 1963 and I'm thinking I'm going down the classy mid-modern century route with the living room. You thoughts?
m.

mhimes said...

RJ, I first took a photo of those cloths in front of the toaster. And then I saw the juicer(still unused) and thought of you. I'm so happy that you saw it!

mhimes said...

Sex sells!
And good luck with following my every move. "I got the moves like Jagger"! m.

mhimes said...

I already knew you had x-ray vision and could always see me naked. It explains why you keep coming back for more...
m.

mhimes said...

I was holding on to that glass with all my might! I would have totally cried had I spilled one drop. I should get a fake glass of wine(that never spills) just for my photos ops.
m.

mhimes said...

She IS crazy and that's why I love her so much. Normal people are boring! Thanks Linda.
m.

mhimes said...

Hey, I'd still like to think that they match my eyes.
And that's so funny about Walt's car and you beating me to the perfect comment. I'll never forget that!
I can't believe that I stole a post title from you. It wasn't on purpose but truly, when it comes to Pillows, what else could I use? Sorry about that, I'll try to be more careful next time.
Good to see you!
m.

mhimes said...

When is it ever of 675 Million? I've never seen it that high.
With that much money, I would certainly have to give most of it to Charity. I can't wrap my head around that much.
m.

mhimes said...

Of course you did. I would do the same thing, prompted or not!
m.

mhimes said...

Every time I use scissors to open a parcel, I tell the children "Never Do This". I'm probably setting a bad example, huh?
m.

mhimes said...

I do what I can. But still, these children are aging me.

mhimes said...

"I know what boys like. I know what guys want".

You're right, I deserve that pillow. I think I'll put the word out that everyone needs to send me things!
And don't be to hard on your pale legs. You don't know what I'm into! m.

Are you gonna bury that Joseph status in your yard? My mother swears that that is a guaranteed way to sell your house quickly. Then again, you could probably get a smaller version and save yourself all that shoveling work.

You are a winner Mark....in every way...but I think you already know that! :-)

That's it. I've just decided. I wish you were my neighbor. I could come over and drink up all your wine and cuddle that pillow and chat with you 'n stuff. Doesn't it all sound so...perfect?

Nancy said...

So, I'm going to be bitchy here and say if it was that exasperating to get the free pillow and other stuff, I'd actually pay not to win! Just kidding. It's a lovely pillow and I wish I would have won it, blah, blah, blah...

So show a photo of the new house already... I've moved on. :)

Remember Suz., "Once you go Black...."
m.

mhimes said...

Anke, so far, the Sellers are meeting our every demand and they couldn't be nice.
They even are allowing us to take the kids through on Friday so out kids can finally see the inside of the house.
m.

mhimes said...

First, I hope you don't mind that I'm replying to both of you through Jim's comment. I would suspect that by now, you're used to being seen as one. Yes, we are buying a new house and, no, things haven't changed with our status. Still, and you'll hear this over and over again, "we refuse to stop living". We have been in our situation for years and had we paused, we would never be where we are now. We're fighters!
m.

mhimes said...

Is it?
m.

Msmutantsupermodel said...

That is seriously gorgeous. And congrats on the new house thing. New decorating! So exciting.

mhimes said...

I knew because I know your taste in men.
m.

mhimes said...

She IS crazy!!! Why doesn't anyone believe me?
And we are still in a state of limbo with our status. Still, we do not stop living because we are faced with roadblocks. Life goes on!
m.

mhimes said...

Do I really embellish? Okay, you caught em, I do! Still, every word is the truth unless I say so. I just try to make the truth funnier!
Few bunkbeds? Sadly, no. We got bunkbeds coming out the yingyang!
m.

mhimes said...

"Doris Day, Rock Hudson". What do you take me for, a big Gay? Okay, you got me. I am!
And you're right, why didn't I think of that. I guess I'm slacking in the Gay department. I'll try to make up for that tonight. Poor Fred. Wink! A total attention whore, m.

mhimes said...

Why would you try to look up my shorts? Please. I know you. You're practically Demi Moore!
m.

mhimes said...

Had I spilled one drop on that pillow, I would have totally killed myself. But luckily for me, I can handle my boozin'!

I stopped "dating" pillows by the time I was 14. My Mom was very happy. m.

mhimes said...

Stalker fans are my favorite! Seriously, what would I do without you, I mean, those crazy people?
And really, I don't know how she does it all.
I'm sure she'll break any day now.
m.

mhimes said...

Peter, had I won the PA Lottery, I would be sitting at a cafe with you. One day!
m.

mhimes said...

Thank you! Now I get it!
And yeah, she is so Done with Sarkozy.
m.

mhimes said...

Fred did bury one in our last house that we sold and we made out like bandits. I should really consider that again.
So, you're loving your new place? Pictures please???
And yeah, I do know that I'm a "winner". Hopefully I'm not jinxing anything by putting that in writting.
m.

Going to tell you something: you might as well know, since we've become friends. I plan my funeral on a daily basis, not in a morbid manner, but in a funeral pinterest manner. That being said, that pillow? I'd want it in my coffin with me.

mhimes said...

Wait, are you sure that's still not "morbid".
Other than that, it's kind of funny too and you know how I like to laugh. But now all I see is your head resting on that pillow forever.
